Our Favorite Ramadan and Eid Books:
Ramadan is the blessed 9th month in Islamic Calendar, the month of mercy. While living in west, its bit challenging to connect Muslim kids with Islamic teaching and culture. Sometimes it's hard to teach younger kids and we all know that "Picture speaks more than words", Picture books written by Muslim authors are true blessing. I have reviewed some amazing Ramadan books for your help Alhamdulillah. Feel free to share these amazing books with friends and family and don't forget to include them in your child's Eid gifts and Ramadan baskets inshaAllah.
Ramadan in Space by My Salah mat:
My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Noodles!
.
Well, in order to understand above mentioned statement, you need to get your copy of Ramadan in Space from My salah mat because it took me few seconds to understand it as well and it was mind blowing.
In the time of technology, where there are several books about space, we just wished to see something special for Muslim kids and this was "what a pleasant surprise!" because it not only educates young kids about space but also a very special month of Ramadan which is totally new concept for my kids.
Hamza and Maryam went to space because it's the year 2090 along with their very special astronaut meals while still in contact with their parents using smart phones (How cool!) They spent their time reading the Quran and praying in space. I just loved to see the verse of Quran Masha Allah. To see Makkah from space was definitely an exciting idea.
.
I just wish to see Salam rather than Hi! to make it more special for Muslim kids. Overall, it's just an amazing book and definitely going in our Ramadan basket for this year.
Zahra's Blessing A Ramadan Story:
๐๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐'๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐๐ค๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ค๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ๐ ๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ" a prayer rose from Zahra's heart like a sigh and floated up into the starry sky.
Another beautiful addition in our Ramadan and refugee books collections Alhamdulillah.
So beautiful story and beautiful illustrations took our hearts away.
.
This book definitely opened up our discussions about charity, donations, refugees, Ramadan, orphans, adoption of a child and becoming a foster parent.
.
We are definitely tired of reading preachy non authentic Ramadan books and want something new, special that presents us in true sense. Our religious norms and values to share the beauty of Islam and importance of Ramadan because this blessed month is much more than just fasting from dawn to the dusk without drinking sip of water even. Message behind fasting during the month of Ramadan, teaches us several messages and this one is one of them.
My daughter just loved illustrations; they are definitely beautiful eye catching.
Eid and picture day! What if they both come together on the same day?
What to wear? Oh no Amira was in distress.
.

Illustrations and super cute story which every Amira will like to read especially if she has to pick and choose between Desi Shalwar Kameez and dress
.
Desi family, Palestinian woman, 21st century youth om Eid day, selfies in masjids and everything that you will love to enjoy this Eid inshaAllah after 2 years of missing Eid Ul Fitar masjid gatherings are well presented in this book.
Highly recommended
going in our Ramadan basket inshaAllah
ย
It's not Just Ramadan or Eid book and honestly the ending of this book is totally according to recent situation where some people are thinking it as religion conflict between Jews and Muslims.
.
Hannah is an 8 years old girl who is willing to fast this Ramadan where her Dada Jaan/ Grandpa teaches her the true meaning of Ramadan which is way beyond than just starving. She wakes up in the morning with the rest of her family for Sahoor and then she starts her day by โSaving the worldโ. She tried to do small acts of kindness and good deeds which were full of challenges and made her realize at one point that it's not that easy the way it sounds to save the world and true meaning of fasting.
.
We have usually seen books that teach young kids and their passion to fast or the books that teaches children about Ramadan or phases of the moon till Eid but this book is way too different. It has several messages including shows off/worldly praise, diversity, Immigrants and different religions as well.
The whole story beautifully discusses different ways Hannah struggled to do some good deeds by thinking she is saving the world but till the end she was confused that did she actually save the whole world? Her Dada Jaan/ Grandpa explains that if you help people around you only, then it's like you have saved the whole world.
.
I want to bring your attention to the end of the story where Hannah and her family had some friends as guests over on Eid day that included ๐๐ข๐ค๐ก, ๐๐๐ฐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ง which teaches them having different religion doesn't make us different human like โYou donโt have to be Palestinian to stand against the genocides but have to be human onlyโ and it's not about Jew or Muslim it's about Palestine.
.
Visiting a graveyard on the day of Eid is part of South Asian culture to miss family members on the very special day. Old album made me nostalgic where I missed dear homeland as well and my childhood Eid's.

.
This book is designed to teach about Ramadan to younger kids that when does Ramadan starts? How we start and break our fast and I really loved how she kept the iftar table simple and without samosa even. It tells young kids that when we fast, we canโt eat or drink while showing people enjoying themselves in the park with family, full of energy, and I would say thatโs what we want to see. Sharing food with non-Muslim neighbors, charity of food, cloths, money and even toys teach kindness and sense of sadaqah to kids. It ends with the verse of the Quran that:
(Quran)
.
My favorite page in this book was the ๐ฆ๐๐ฌ๐ฃ๐ข๐ ๐ฌ๐๐๐ง๐ where you can see everyone praying together, young and old, mother with small kids and young child riding at the back of his father even. It showed beautifully that we can keep our kids in masjid while providing them with separate area to enjoy themselves. Glossary is at the end of each page to understand terms like taraveeh and ๐๐ซ-๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ง with references of Ahadith. Loved it.
.
The last page which brings back the memories of pre covid Eid was adorable. Such detailed illustrations that you can see even tiny, small ice cream cone.
.
Diverse characters, disables kids and even woman in black abaya with niqab was a pleasant surprise in this book.
.
This is 4th book in the series of My first books and I would say after going through each single page I canโt see even a single problem in text, illustrations or ideas at all Masha Allah. Highly recommended.

Baby's First Ramadan:
Have you ever dreamed for Ramadan board book?
For your toddler?
.
That thick book that is safe for young kids?
.
Dream came true
Diverse, High quality board book about Ramadan should definitely go in your bookshelf, Ramadan baskets, Eid gift bag and your toddler's bedtime story.
ย It starts with the Verse of Quran.
.
This super cute Ramadan book is so special because โ๐ฆ๐จ๐จ๐งโ takes you along the journey of Ramadan and its celebration across the globe. Moon is main character of this book that teaches us about the special celebrations, food, clothing for the month of Ramadan in different continents. In this book you can see special kids as well which we rarely see in any other Muslim books E.g., child with hearing aids, on wheelchair etc. This helped my kids to learn about these beautiful kids and to respect them. (which is important).
.
Moon starts it journey from North America and ends in Australia while discusses along how people fasts and what they eat for their Iftar. When it reaches South America, it tells us about Brazilian soccer where it gives very important lesson that games donโt affect our fasts Alhamdulillah. Although kids felt thirsty but still didnโt leave fast nor their game MashaAllah.
.
When it reaches Asia, we saw โ๐๐จ๐จ๐ก ๐๐๐ณ๐โ in Pakistan as well (๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ก ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐).
.
Details in illustrations to the content, you can see your food and your race in it which makes you feel special. We love this book Alhamdulillah without any exaggeration. Thank you so much for writing this gem for us.

A Ramadan Fiesta:
Anyone's child fasting for the very first time? Well @trilingualsofia is fasting as well for the very first time with her cousin Jose and her family.
.
Being as Multilingual family ourselves we felt it very special for us. My kids were so excited to see Sofia speaking Arabic and English like them and definitely learnt a lot more about Spanish and how it has several words closer to Arabic e.g. Jirafa, giraffe and
Well actually for my kids this covered 4 languages for them because Urdu has similar word like Arabic for giraffe

As a homeschooling family I'll highly recommend this series as an educational resource for tour Spanish or English story time, it comes with glossary of difficult words at end.
.
Trilingual Sofia has non-Muslim family and this series show their support and connection for Sofia despite of having different faith. If you have non-Muslim family, please do gift them this series and I'm sure your family and relate very well inshaAllah.
.
Being multilingual is differently a blessing. To know different languages with different accents and dialects makes one grateful as its blessing of Allah Kareem like in this series.
To write review of this amazing book I would quote Hadith of Prophet SAW when Asma R.A asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) how she should treat her mother. He instructed her to treat her mother kindly.
He (peace be upon him) said: โYes, do an act of kindness to herโ. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim and Abu Dawud).
.
It's not just a story book for Muslim kids but can act as ๐๐๐ฐ๐๐ก ๐๐จ๐จ๐ค too. You can gift it to your non-Muslim friends to help them understand that in ๐๐ฌ๐ฅ๐๐ฆ we keep family bounding at its place. Our acceptance of Islam should not affect family relationship.
.
Being a trilingual family, this book was on my wish list for a long time Alhamdulillah.
.
This is not just a story book but I would say it's an "Educational Resource". The way writer Marium Saad has beautifully organized glossary at the end that covers
๐ฌ๐๐๐๐๐๐ is really amazing. If you are struggling to juggle around with 2-3 languages including Arabic and English then this book is definitely a ๐๐๐๐ InshaAllah.
.
As this book is about ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ ๐๐๐จ๐ฉ so it covers different food items. I remember when i was studying Arabic language the very thing after basic conversation was food because you know our discussions and gatherings start from food and end on food as well.ย So if you know names of different food items you are not going to starve at least in a strange land among strangers.
.
Super cute illustrations are the plus point of this amazing book.
.
Right just in time of Eid don't forgot to grab your copy Insha'Allah.
